Bob Joyce, Financial Advisor for Retirement and Investments

Meet Bob Joyce

Bob Joyce is a dedicated Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and former Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) whose professional journey has been shaped by a simple lesson from his father: “We don’t all wear blue suits.” That saying taught him early on that every person is different, and that understanding those differences is essential when helping people plan their financial futures. That guiding principle informs Bob’s client-centered approach and his commitment to tailored, practical advice.

Throughout his career Bob has combined deep technical knowledge with hands-on experience. He began as a CPA with a focus on income tax, moved into wealth management with Canada’s largest full-service investment firm, and today operates an advice-only, fee-only financial planning practice. His background in taxation, investments, insurance and retirement planning gives clients a broad, integrated perspective when creating personalized plans.

Bob and his wife Sharon live in Hacketts Cove near St. Margaret’s Bay on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. They share their home with five rescue pets and appreciate the scenic coastal setting and the warmth of their neighbours. Bob draws on the values of community, stewardship and practical common sense in both his personal life and professional work.

Why did you become a planner?

Bob believes context brings clarity. Early in his career he realized that helping clients define a clear vision for their future — then building a practical, step-by-step plan to reach it — gives people the confidence to make better decisions. Whether working on tax-efficient strategies, retirement income design, or insurance protection, Bob finds real satisfaction in turning complexity into clarity so clients can pursue their goals with assurance.

What is your approach to financial planning?

Every client is unique, and Bob’s process is flexible to reflect that. He starts with careful listening and fact-finding to understand each person’s circumstances, values and objectives. From there he develops a personalized plan that addresses investments, retirement income, taxes and insurance. Implementation is collaborative and transparent — Bob focuses on clear recommendations and fee-only advice so clients know they’re getting unbiased guidance. Regular reviews keep plans aligned with changing goals and life events.

What is your proudest achievement as a financial planner?

Rather than a single milestone, Bob measures success by the positive difference he makes in clients’ lives. A heartfelt thank-you from someone who feels more secure and in control of their finances is the best reward he can imagine. Those moments confirm that thoughtful, well-executed financial planning provides stability and freedom.

What would you do if money were no object?

Bob would open and operate a craft-beer taproom — a place to pour draught and enjoy relaxed conversation with customers late into the evening. For him, it’s about hospitality, community and the simple pleasure of good company.

What is the best money advice you ever received?

“Slow and steady with your core investments.” Building long-term wealth usually comes from consistent, disciplined saving and diversified investments. Riskier bets should be reserved for capital you can afford to lose.

What is the worst money advice you ever received?

“Debt is good” — without context. While debt can be a useful tool in certain situations, it should be used deliberately and with an understanding of the costs and risks involved. Context matters.
